چکیده

Properly prepared, standarized, and stored fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorption (FTA-ABS) reagents have been shown to have stabilities equal to other biological reagents. A liquid antigen over 10 years old has been shown to give a satisfactory reaction. Newer preparations have now been shown to be stable for over 5 years, and the tests on each are being continued. The very new liquid antigens which were originally standardized by the FTA-ABS method have shown no decrease in potency over a 20-month period. Stability studies on antigens dried on slides are now in their eighth month, with no apparent loss in potency. The stability of the conjugate is constant when stored frozen at -20 C or lyophilized. When stored as a liquid at 4 C, the stability is governed by the pH and the molarity of the buffer. The standardized and lyophilized sorbent has been shown to be stable for over 1 year.

Reactivity of microhemagglutination, fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption, Venereal Disease Research Laboratory, and rapid plasma reagin tests in primary syphilis.

Seroreactivity of sera from 109 patients with first-infection primary syphilis was 98.2% in the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test, 92.7% in the rapid plasma reagin 18-mm circle card test, 72.5% in the microhemagglutination test (MHA-TP), and 72.5% in the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test. Seroreactivity of sera from 18 patients with primary syphilis with documented previou...

Serological tests for treponemal infection in leprosy patients. An evaluation of the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA--ABS) test.

Much has been written about the biological false positive (BFP) reaction demonstrated by reagin tests applied to sera from patients suffering from leprosy. It is well known that a BFP reaction is in all but a very small minority of cases proved or disproved by recourse to specific tests for treponemal infection, i.e. the Treponema pallidum immobilization (TPI) test and/or the fluorescent trepon...

Immunochemical parameters of some commercial conjugates for the fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorption test.

Fluorescein-labeled anti-human globulins were examined to determine the need for standardization of conjugates used in the fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorption (FTA-ABS) test. Twenty-one of 33 conjugates submitted by commercial manufacturers to the Reagents Control Activity, Venereal Disease Research Laboratory, for evaluation in the FTA-ABS test were available for study. Conjugates, afte...

Solid-phase fluoroimmunoassay for treponemal antibody.

An objective, solid-phase fluoroimmunoassay for treponemal antibody was developed with a lysate of virulent Treponema pallidum (Nichols strain) adsorbed on cellulose acetate disks. A probe containing both the antigen and control disks is inserted successively into a serum specimen dilution, a buffer rinse, fluoroscein isothiocyanate-conjugated goat anti-human immunoglobulin G, and a second buff...

Influence of genital herpes on results of fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test.

Both the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTS-ABS) test and Venereal Disease Laboratory (VDRL) test for syphilis were performed routinely on 113 men with histories of genital ulcerations. The difference in negative VDRL and borderline FTS-ABS results between patients with and without herpes simplex virus in their genital ulcers and no evidence of previous or untreated syphilis was no...
